Kathmandu : If reports are to be believed Then 35-year-old Kevin Pieterson-the legend who is being ignored by the England Cricket Board ECB, hints that he is interested to play for his birth nation, South Africa. Pietersen’s former international teammate, Darren Gough suggested that the aggressive batsman could play for the south Africa if he continued to be ignored by ECB.
“I think he will be tempted, given the way he has been treated, or the way he thinks he has been treated over the past few years. He is not going to play county cricket this year unless somebody comes out of the blue and offers him a ridiculous fee. He definitely won’t play county cricket but he might play T20.”
Me playing for SA at the start of 2018. Ummmm, can I, @piersmorgan? 🇿🇦🏏— Kevin Pietersen (@KP24) February 18, 2016
However, under ICC rules, once a player has represented a Test-playing country, he must wait for four years to re-qualify for another country. So Pieterson can play for South Africa, alongside ABD after January 2018 as his last match for England was in January 2014.
Pieterson replied to some of the fan tweets. He then sarcastically asked his good friend and television host Piers Morgan if he could play for the Proteas, to which Piers Morgan was supportive of since England seem to have no plans of selecting him in any format in the future.
However, his recent Playing in PSL and his Nest focus will be on playing in the Indian Premier League where he would represent Rising Pune Supergiants.
